Elementary
at SVCA is grades 1 through 6. The elementary classrooms consist of
traditional instruction using the ABeka curriculum. The individual
subjects include: reading/phonics, math, science, history, English/literature,
cursive writing, health, music, art, and Bible. Additionally, the
students have chapel at designated times throughout the school
year.
In
grades 1 and 2, there is a continued emphasis on reading using the
phonics technique. In third grade, the emphasis moves into reading
comprehension.
All
elementary students have physical education three times per week
and have music once per week. During the third grade year, the students
are introduced to flutophones (A pre-band instrument) during music class. For fifth and sixth
grades, band is offered as an elective. Students in grades 2 through
6 also have art once a week.
Annually
students compete in various local and ACSI competitions such
as spelling bees, creative writing competitions, and musical competitions.
The
elementary school day begins at 8:15 am and concludes at 3:15 pm.
